Just a thought, have you considered buying two, asking finance companies for the total sum plus a small amount with which to renovate and make a more attractive investment for you and them. Market the deal as a self sufficient venture and they may be more interested.

I Germany, I have found they like to include everything you may need for the property in the loan, it might be a useful way to look at it in the uK too.
