I asked a gas engineer to contact my tenants directly to make arrangement for access to carry out annual service & safety check. A few days later, the gas engineer phoned me, complaining that he turned up punctually at 8am as arranged, waited for 15 min. but no one was at home so he would charge a call out charge of 65. I sent the invoice to the tenants saying that they were responsible for this unnecessary charges. However, they wrote back saying that they asked the engineer to come at 8.30am as they worked night shift and refused to pay. I don't know who was telling the truth. The engineer is now chasing me for payment. Please advise.
