sitting tenants

i have just bought my first property with sitting tenants or I think they are. Prior to the completion the tenants lived in the property for about 3 years - are they sitting tenants?

My dilema is that I intend to move in as soon as I legally can. I am currently a tenant myself and my wife is expecting our first child. I haven't got a clue what to do, I haven't even drawn up a tenancy agreement.

I desperatley need your assistance and any advice will be warmly welcomed.
