Tenant has paid two months rent

My tenant moved in in December last year, his first cheque bounced and despite several warnings and letters has evaded me. 2nd months rent due on Thursday. I have sent a recorded letter setting out the monies owing. Can I serve a notice to quit or do I have to wait two weeks from the date of the letter, and then wot??
